    Reception

    Parent Dances

The traditional father-daughter and mother-son dances at the reception, performed after the first dance.

Parent dances follow the first dance — typically father-daughter then mother-son, each 2-3 minutes. Many modern couples adapt: combined parent dance, both partners dancing with their respective parents simultaneously, or a single 'parents of the couple' dance.

If a parent is deceased, divorced, estranged, or absent, talk to your DJ in advance about how to handle the moment. A short, well-handled tribute is meaningful; an unannounced gap is awkward.
