    Reception

    First Dance

The newly married couple's choreographed (or just slow) dance to their chosen song, traditionally the first dance of the reception.

The first dance opens the reception's dance program. Most couples pick a song they associate with their relationship — average length 2.5-3.5 minutes (anything over 4 feels long to guests watching).

Dance-floor logistics: hold a quick practice in your venue or at home so you don't freeze in front of 150 people. If your song is long, ask the DJ to fade it at 2:45 — guests appreciate it.
