    Save the Date

A pre-invitation card sent 6-8 months before the wedding letting guests block the date on their calendar.

Save-the-dates lock in your wedding date for guests well before formal invitations arrive. Mail them 6-8 months ahead for local weddings, 9-12 months ahead for destination or peak-season (October Saturday) weddings.

A save-the-date only needs the names, date, and city — exact venue and reception details go on the invitation later. Anyone who receives a save-the-date must receive a formal invitation later.
